But, about trains impact on US cities, he's wrong. In NYC the train was put together by private investors hoping to raise their property values. That's what caused the high population density around the train stops, not vice-versa. This same principle could be used to encourage city density in the US by offering a cheap alternative to car ownership. I revel in the fact that transportation costs me less than $100 per month total.

The initial difficulties in urban sprawl areas like LA and Atlanta could be overcome by an elaborate park and ride system, or perhaps something like a golf cart to get from train station to work.; 14 June 2010 at 9:02 pm
